Our Founding
In 1947 a small group of believers and families started faithfully gathering to learn from God's word together. They took over an old Buddhist temple and remodeled it into a place of worship, and called it the Baptist Missionary Tabernacle.
Our move to Western
In 1959, they purchased a plot of ground on the corner of Western Avenue and A Street in the hopes that God would bless and use it. The new building was dedicated in 1962 and became known as Western Avenue Baptist Church. By God's grace that corner would see hundreds of souls profess faith in Jesus as Savior and the commissioning of dozens of missionaries in the hope that even more would be won into His kingdom.
Our Joy in God’s Work
Just as it was the goal then to be faithful to plant, to water, and to trust God for the increase, so it is now. It is our hope that we as a church learn together and work together, that we would see the goodness of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ spread throughout Brawley, the Imperial Valley, and beyond.
Our Family in Christ
Today, Western Avenue Baptist Church consists of both long-time members and believers as younger believers who are new to the church. Regardless of where you are in your walk, all of us share in the purpose of growing into the image of God’s Son (Romans 8:28-29). We do that by dedicating ourselves to learning and applying the Word of God to our lives and showing our faith by our love for one another (John 13:35). Will you come and take part as we desire to see God’s purpose for us fulfilled?
