Note the following minor corrections / clarifications.
First, I mentioned Invictus (aka William Earnest Henley), a non-believer, who believed that man could control his own destiny. He famously stated, “I am the master of my own fate, I am the captain of my own soul.”
Second, the Jonathan Edwards’ famous sermon that helped sparked the Great Awakening is referred to as “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” I had left out the word “sinners” when referring to it.
